I love this website, I use Open Office because my Microsoft Word has been erm....gay. I have yet to fix it, and from what I have seen, Open Office in all of it's awesomeness doesn't have a word counter! : (
So, I use this, it's awesome. I'm not too worried about them storing what I wrote, as most of the stuff I use this for is for school (blahhh), so it's like "wat ev."

Why can't you guys just use the Microsoft Word word counter?...
edit: Doesn't it worry you that these guys can store everything you've pasted into the text box? Every word you've written can be saved by them.

I have to do a 5000 word research paper on smoking and this is the only one i use because it works i used like three others and got diffrent numbers and i came here and i hand counted it and the numbers were the same thank you

As a new writer trying to get his first book edited, this word counter is an invaluable tool! Some editing services offer "sample" edits of a certain number of words. Now I know which chapter to send so I can see each editor's style! Thanks a million!

Are the articles (a,an,and the) too counted in the word count? These three are not among the parts of speech thus they are not counted as 'words'.

The word counter tool is great! This saves me so much time and frustration. I use it for all my essays and can easily get the total number of words I typed in the click of a button! I recommend others to try this if they have not done so already.

Have you considered offering an option to have the counter count characters, besides words? Some things that limit what you can "submit" limit it by the number of characters.... In any case, Thank You very much for your service! I am a student at our local community college.

OMJ this is n excellent way of counting words it is very useful. For I do not have word but instead wordpad LOL. so this really saves my life with those 2,500-4,000 words essays LOL. Almost done with my extended essay.

I don't have microsoft word on this computer so it made it a lot easier than guessing or using sending it to my other computer. Only thing I don't like is that I wanted to delete my notes which I included in the paper which I will not remove until the end and to do that I couldn't scroll up and then click where I want to delete(had to highlight the whole area and then delete.)

Solid site. Might want to modify it so that after the first click inside the box, the next time you click it doesn't remove all the text again... I wanted to copy my doc in and remove my block quotes and titles, but every time you click in the box it removes all the text. Other than that solid tool, thanks!

I think that you should add a feature which enables you to choose what kind of words are counted (ex; words that are three letters or longer), because some essays need to be a certain number of words, and only words over three letters count.

This counter would be so much more useful if it didn't count things like html tags and dashes as words. I put the same chunk of text into six different word counters, including this one, and got six different results. After counting manually, you told me I had 43 more words than I actually did.

I was doing a report on the old Ms Word - The one without a word count- and alluvasudden the thing closed. When I tried to retrive it I got like 2 paragraphs.
So, I was being a complete sob and I went and cut myself.

I have to use to use TextEdit cause I don't have word and I REALLY didn't want to count by hand especially cause that takes up time that I need to actually do the assignment so this really helped me!! :]

This website is a good idea, and it does what it's supposed to do very well. My only complaint: Why is this not in Javascript?! It would be faster, and would work offline. I could whip up something in maybe 5 minutes to count the number of words in a given text. Perhaps if you don't have a Javascript enabled browser, my idea would not work, but basically all modern browsers come with Javascript. It is even on mobile devices.

this is great tool! it counted my 3000 word paper in a jiffy, and seems to be way more accurate that word!

I got to thinking...being the paranoid skeptic that I am...what happens to our content when we click Submit? This isn't a content scraping tool is it? Just checking. There's not TOS on the site, so...I'm going to have to find another resource. I can't risk my client's info being stolen.

Going to make this short (lol feel very lucky @ that lol).
First, I absolutely love this site! Babble-addicts like myself truly need this when they have inspiration bursts they'd like to share lol. I'd love to see a character count (or a link to, if you already have it) implemented, as I personally have difficulty with 'not exceeding' the limit lol.
Quick note to Thanh (and others maybe) about Notepad...ditch it lol. I use Notepad.NET and it's very light (not sure if it does word count, but it does do line count etc...but it's DEFINATELY a huge improvement, and looks very nice as well...lol I'm picky as to the UI appearance lol.)

This is a great tool. Thanks you!!! One suggestion only just because I'm picky...if you could put a "Clear" button to the side with the "Submit" button as I keep this tool open while working and come back again and again. Thanks again...will definitely use this for a long time to come.

This is really awesome, I did this research paper and it had to be under 10,000 words but over 2000. When I put it in I only had 500! I was so screwed but this helped my so much the only thing that would make this better would be a spell checker! But it is great!

This was a life saver because notepad has NO word counting system what so ever! I had no idea if i was writing enough! Great tool, now if only it had spell check!

Anonymous, as I said, there isn't a word counter in 2003 or earlier versions (I think). And I'm not too bothered about storing information either :)
